The following pre-packaged resource, derived from this base command, is available:
Cut
Applied Parameters: None
Summary
This command is used to clear the selected object(s) from the current document and copy them to the clipboard.
Access
This command can be accessed from the PCB Editor, the PCB Library Editor, and the Pad Via Library Editor by:
- Choosing the Edit » Cut command from the main menus.
- Right-clicking and choosing the Cut command from the context menu.
- Clicking the button on the PCB Standard toolbar (PCB Editor), PCB Lib Standard toolbar (PCB Library Editor), or Pad Via Library Standard toolbar (Pad Via Library Editor).
- Using the Ctrl+X keyboard shortcut.
The command only becomes available provided at least one object is selected in the design workspace (or a value in an applicable field with respect to the Pad Via Library Editor).
Use
Make sure that the object(s) that you want to cut are selected and then launch the command. The cursor will change to a crosshair, and you will be prompted to select a reference point. This is a coordinate relative to the selected object(s) and is used to accurately position the selection when using the paste command. Position the cursor as required and click or press Enter - the selection will be removed from the workspace and copied to the clipboard.
Tips
- If a selected object is locked and you try to cut it, you will be prompted with a confirmation dialog alerting you to this, and asking if you want to continue.
- The cut object(s) are added to the Clipboard panel. The panel can store a number of objects that can be added (pasted) to various document types within Altium Designer at any stage, allowing for multiple copy/paste operations.
- The Clipboard panel supports a variety of data formats, depending on the origin and object type. It can be set to display either only objects copied or cut from within the Altium Designer environment, or the entire Windows clipboard - controlled by the Monitor clipboard content within this application only option, on the System - General page of the Preferences dialog. Be aware that not all data types are supported by each design editor (PCB Editor, Schematic Editor, etc), and that objects that are not supported will not be pasted.
-
Clipboard panel content is not persistent across design sessions. All content will be cleared when the software is closed and restarted.
