Applied Parameters: None
Summary
This command is used to access the Layer Sets Manager dialog, from where you can switch to using a different, existing layer set, or define a new one. A typical board design could include 8 signal layers, 4 plane layers and 10 mechanical layers, as well as the top and bottom silkscreen and ancillary layers, such as solder and paste masks. Layer sets are an ideal way of managing the display of this large number of layers - enabling you to quickly switch between defined sets, containing different layers to display, and allowing you to see what you need to see, while reducing workspace clutter.
Access
This command is accessed from the PCB Editor, and PCB Library Editor:
- PCB Editor - by choosing the Design » Manage Layer Sets » Board Layer Sets command, from the main menus.
- PCB Library Editor - by choosing the Tools » Manage Layer Sets » Board Layer Sets command, from the main menus.
In addition, and from both editors, the command can be accessed by clicking on the LS part of the button to the left of the layer tabs (at the bottom of the main design window), and choosing Board Layer Sets from the context menu.
Use
After launching the command, the Layer Sets Manager dialog will appear. A number of default layer sets are provided - these can't be edited or deleted. You are, however, free to create and define as many additional layer sets as you require, specifying the layer members for each set.
You can switch the active layer set to a different one, simply by selecting that set and clicking the Switch To button - the workspace will update in the background to present only those layers in the chosen set.
In addition, you can export user-defined layer sets to file (<PCBDocumentName>.Layerset), or import them from an existing file.
Tips
- Each layer set is composed of existing board layers for the active PCB document, and each layer set is saved within the board file.
