Applied Parameters: TemplateSource=Configuration
Summary
This command is not a command in the usual sense, but rather gives access to a sub-menu of currently available vault-based schematic templates - templates that have been released into an Altium Vault and have been made available for reuse as part of an enforced environment configuration (chosen by the user when signing in to the organization's Altium Vault). You can then change template as required from those available and apply to either the active schematic document, all schematics in the active project, or all open schematic documents (regardless of the project to which they belong). A schematic template is a document that holds user-defined sheet size, border, and title block descriptions that can be referenced by (linked to) a schematic sheet, and therefore, negating the need to define these common attributes again and again.
The menu will be available if you are signed into an Altium Vault, and an
environment configuration is in force, and revisions of Schematic Template Items have been defined as part of that configuration. It will also be available if an environment configuration is not in force, but at least one revision of a Schematic Template Item has been released to the vault.
Access
Vault-based templates are available from the Design » Templates » Configuration Templates sub-menu.
Once you have signed in to your organization's Altium Vault and chosen (if applicable) from the selection of environment configurations available to you, Altium Designer will be configured with respect to use of Schematic Templates. The menu will only present those Schematic Template Items available, or defined for the environment configuration currently in-force.
Use
Simply choose the required Schematic Template Item to use, from those available on the sub-menu. The Update Template dialog will appear. Use this dialog to determine the scope of the update both in terms of which schematic documents are to use this template Item and how parametric information (typically defined in the template's title block region) is handled.
After clicking OK, the template will be applied to the schematic(s) and an information dialog will appear summarizing on how many documents the template has been set.
Tips
- When applying the template Item to all schematic documents in the current project, all documents that are currently closed will be opened as the update is made.
- The Schematic Template Item currently being used by the active schematic document can be seen on the Template tab of the Document Options dialog.
- While file-based general and project templates must be SchDot format, a Schematic Template Item's source can be either SchDoc or SchDot.
