Position Component Text (Context Sensitive)
Applied Parameters: LaunchMode=RightClick
Summary
This command is used to run the Component Text Position dialog, from where you can change the position of the designator and/or comment text for one or more selected components in the current document.
Access
This command is accessed from the PCB Editor by right-clicking over a selected component (or component in a group of selected components) and choosing the Align » Position Component Text command, from the context menu.
Use
First, ensure that the components whose designators and/or comment text you wish to reposition, are selected in the main design workspace.
After launching the command, the Component Text Position dialog will appear. The dialog is essentially divided into two halves - concerning the designator and comment text respectively. For both designator and comment, a graphical representation of a component is used as an aid to show where the text will appear based on the position selected. The following nine positional styles are available for the text, all of which are classed as 'automatic positions', meaning the text remains in the chosen position as the component is moved and rotated:
- Left-Above
- Left-Center
- Left-Below
- Center-Above
- Center
- Center-Below
- Right-Above
- Right-Center
- Right-Below.
Tips
- The designator and comment text positions can also be changed using the Autoposition property in their respective object properties dialogs (Designator dialog and Comment dialog). The properties dialog for a component (Component dialog) will also give access to these text position attributes.
- To freely position the designator/comment text, and have it follow the parent component's movement/orientation, choose the Manual style in an applicable properties dialog. You can also freely click, hold and drag text to the required position, directly in the workspace - this will automatically switch the Autoposition mode to Manual.
