Applied Parameters: None
Summary
This command allows you to add a measurement cursor to, and take measurements from, a single waveform in the Waveform Analysis window.
Access
This command can be accessed from the SimData Editor in the following ways:
- Choose the Wave » Cursor A command from the main menus.
- Right-click on a waveform's name then choose the Cursor A command from the context menu.
Use
First, ensure that the waveform to which you want to add the cursor is selected in the Waveform Analysis window. This is achieved by clicking on the waveform name (a selected waveform will become bolder in color and have a dot to the left of its name).
After launching the command, a measurement cursor tab (tab a) is added at the top of the waveform analysis window and crosshairs appear intersecting the waveform. You can move the cursor by clicking and dragging its tab. Read the X and Y values of the current cursor position from the Measurement Cursors region of the Sim Data panel.
Running the command again (from the main menu only) will turn the cursor off. This can also be achieved by right-clicking on the cursor's tab then choosing Cursor Off from the context menu.
Tips
- The cursor tab will assume the same color as that used by the waveform to which it is assigned.
- The Cursor A measurement cursor can only be used once. For example, if Cursor A was already used for a waveform and you selected another waveform and assigned Cursor A to it, Cursor A will disappear from the original waveform and be reassigned to the new waveform.
- You can add a second measurement cursor using the Cursor B command to the same waveform or a different waveform. There are a number of measurements that can be made based on the positions of these two cursors. The measurement type(s) available will appear automatically in the Measurement Cursors region of the Sim Data panel. It should be noted that for measurements other than B-A, both cursors need to be added to the same waveform.
- Measurement information based on the cursor(s) used can also be presented in the chart (beneath the relevant plot(s) in which the cursor(s) are being used). Enable display of information from the Cursors tab of the Chart Options dialog (Chart » Chart Options).
- Select the cursor (by clicking on its tab) to gain access to a range of commands (on the main Wave menu and SimView Cursor toolbar) that operate on the cursor. You can move it to the maximum or minimum point on the waveform or quickly jump to the next/previous peak/trough.
- When a waveform is selected, filtering is applied using the name of the waveform as the scope. All other waveforms in the active chart with different names will be masked (becoming dimmed). The extent of the masking (how dim the non-selected waveforms become) can be controlled through the use of the Mask Level slider bar accessed by clicking the Mask Level button located at the bottom-right of the Waveform Analysis window. If more than one waveform of the same name exists in the active chart, the non-selected instances will remain fully visible.
