The following pre-packaged resource, derived from this base command, is available:
Move Component
Applied Parameters: None
Summary
This command is used to move a component from the current library document to any other open library document.
Access
This command is accessed from the Schematic Library Editor by choosing the Tools » Move Component command from the main menus.
Use
First, ensure that the component that you want to move is selected in the Design Item ID list of the SCH Library panel (and is therefore the active component in the main design window).
After launching the command, the Destination Library dialog will open. This dialog lists all of the currently open or hidden schematic library documents (not including the active library document). Select the document to which you want to move the component. After clicking OK, the component will be moved to the destination library.
A confirmation dialog will appear asking whether you want to delete the component from the original (active) library document. If you choose to delete, the component will be removed from the original library document and the next component in the Design Item ID list will become the active component.
Tips
- All open libraries (except the active library) will be listed in the Destination Library dialog regardless of whether they are free documents or part of the current or any other open project.
- You can also move library components using the SCH Library panel. Select the component(s) in the Design Item ID list of the panel using the standard multi-selection techniques (Click, Shift+click and Ctrl+click). Once the components have been selected, right-click then choose Cut from the context menu. A confirmation dialog will appear asking whether you want to delete the component from the original (active) library document. If you choose to delete, the component will be removed from the original library document. Change to the target library, right-click in the Design Item ID list of the SCH Library panel then choose Paste - adding them to the list.
- When pasting more than one instance of a copied component into a library using the direct cut/paste method in the panel, the component will be duplicated but the components will not have the same name. Instead, each copy will have a suffix. For example, if the original component is called CAP, then the first copy will be called CAP_1, the second CAP_2, etc.
