Setting Advanced Options
The Company Dashboard Advanced Controls page allows administrators to specify Workspace and Personal Space user access policies for the organization’s Altium 365 platform. The available options can be applied to prevent the activation of Workspaces (if available for creation) and to control the file sharing/uploading capabilities of the Personal Spaces available to company members.
These options are effectively ‘global’ settings that apply to all registered users in the organization. When enabled, they provide increased data security through the prevention of inadvertent file-sharing or external exposure – the limitations do not apply to Group Administrators. You can access the user restrictions settings in the Advanced Controls page, opened from the main menu tree of your organization's Account page (Company Dashboard).
Workspace Creation Control
If your organization is yet to activate an Altium 365 Workspace, or your company’s level of Altium product access allows multiple Workspaces to be created, then all company user members have the ability to activate a Workspace – see the Workspace Activation & Management page for more information. To restrict access to this capability the Data Management's Workspace creation option in the Advanced Controls page can be set to Only Admins. The setting is immediately applied when the Advanced Control page is saved ().
With this setting, company administrators (Group Administrators
) can activate a Workspace, while other company members will be blocked with a related information dialog that includes the option to send a Workspace activation request email to the organization’s administrator(s).
Personal Space Sharing-Saving Control
All members of an organization’s Company Account have access to an individual Altium 365 Personal Space for uploading and sharing design files. For some organizations the default open access approach of company Personal Spaces may not be desirable from a security perspective, or in terms of design management and auditing. The Company Dashboard’s Data Management options in the Advanced Controls page provide Personal Space sharing and saving options that can be used to specify company-wide restrictions on Personal Space capabilities.
By default, each company member’s Personal Space allows the following actions:
- Design files/packages in multiple formats can be uploaded to a Personal Space (and accessed in the Files view).
- Design files uploaded to the Altium 365 online Standalone Viewer can be saved to a user’s Personal Space.
- Design files that have been uploaded to a Personal Space (available in the Files view) can be shared with other users inside and outside of the organization.
- Design files that have been uploaded to a Personal Space can be Embedded into a website for viewing by others.
-
Workspace designs that have been shared (with full

rights) to a user’s Personal Space can be re-shared with other users inside and outside of the organization. - Design files that have been uploaded or shared to a Personal Space can be shared with other users from a placed Comment.
All of the above sharing/saving capabilities will be blocked for non-admin users when the Personal Space sharing and saving option is set to Only Admins:
-
Attempts at uploading/saving will invoke an information message that also provides the option to send an access request to your organization’s Company Account administrator – see example. Request emails include a link ( ) to the dashboard's Advanced Controls page.
-
Attempts at sharing will open a Request to Save and Share Files window dialog where a request note may be sent to administrators – see example.
-
Other features such as website Embedding and Sharing from a Comment are not available.
The ability to share and save (upload) design files also can be constrained to a particular Group of organization members using the Specific Group option. To do so, select the Specific Group field and choose the desired organization Group from the drop-down list of existing Groups, and then confirm the selection (). Along with administrators, only members of the specified Group will have access to Personal Space sharing and saving.
As also shown above, the Specific Group option for Personal Space sharing and saving also offers Group creation and management options:
- Use the Create Group option to name and populate a new Group of company members. This opens the Create Group window on the Dashboard’s Users and Groups page where you can add existing usernames to the desired new Group (see example). For more information see Creating a New Group.
- Use the Manage Group option to open the named Group where users can be added and removed (see example). For more information see Managing Groups.
