Adding a Footprint when Defining a Component for Your Workspace Library in CircuitMaker

 

The Add New Footprint button and commands allow you to add a new or existing footprint to the component being defined.

The commands can be accessed by choosing Home | Models | Add New Footprint from the Component Editor.

Adding a New Footprint

Click   to open the temporary PCB Footprint Library editor, ready for you to define the footprint using the tools available under the Home tab on the ribbon. The footprint will initially be named using the name of the component currently being defined, model type, and model number – change this as required. Once defined, just save and close the editor – the footprint will appear back in the Models region of the Component Editor.

A new footprint can also be added by clicking the drop-down icon on the button below the Add Footprint region of the Component Editor and choosing New from the associated menu.

Select Item Revision Dialog

The Select Item Revision dialog is accessed by choosing Home | Models | Add New Footprint » Add Existing.

The dialog is also accessed by clicking the drop-down icon on the button below the Add Footprint region of the Component Editor and choosing Existing from the associated menu.

  • Search Filter – enter a search string in the provided text field and click the Search button to perform a search for a footprint model among those created by the CircuitMaker Community users.
  • Components – lists the footprint models matching the defined search string in terms of their names and descriptions.
  • Revisions – lists the revisions of the footprint model currently selected in the Components list in terms of their authors and creation dates.
  • Preview – shows the preview image of the footprint model currently selected in the Components list.

Select a footprint model in the Components list and click Ok. The selected footprint will appear back in the Models region of the Component Editor.

Working with the Chosen Footprint

To manage the linked footprint from the Models region of the Component Editor, select the  button to edit the footprint in the temporary PCB Footprint Library editor, or select the  button to choose from the following options:

  • Select Model – use to open the Select Item Revision dialog in which you can search for and choose a different footprint or a different revision of that same footprint.
  • Update to Latest – use to update the link to use the latest revision of the footprint.
  • Remove – use to delete the footprint.
