Defining the Layers in the Stackup for Your Board in CircuitMaker

The Home | Layers region accessed from the Layer Stack Manager editor includes commands to add signal and plane layers and move layers up and down in the Layer Stack Manager editor.

The Layer Stack Manager editor can be accessed by choosing Home | Board | Layer Stack Manager from the PCB editor.
For information about the Layer Stack Manager editor, refer to the Layer Stack Manager page.

Add

The Add button is used to add either a Signal Layer or Plane layer to the Stackup. Use the drop-down to choose the desired addition.

Signal Layers are also called copper layers. A Signal Layer is used to define signal routing and carries the electrical signals and circuit supply current. They are typically annealed foil and electro-deposited.

Plane layers are solid copper layers that are used to distribute power and ground and they can be split into regions. They also must specify the distance from the plane edge to the board edge (pullback). They are typically annealed foil.

After adding a layer or layers, they are added to the Stackup as shown below.

Delete

Click Delete to delete the currently selected layer in the Stackup.
