Summary
This command is used to access the Symbol Wizard dialog - the user interface for the Schematic Symbol Generation Tool. This tool simplifies and speeds up the symbol creation process for large scale devices. Pins are configured using grid-based tabular data, and copy/paste/smart paste operations are supported.
This capability is enabled in Altium NEXUS with the installation of the Schematic Symbol Generation Tool software extension. This is installed by default, but in case of inadvertent removal, it can be found on the Purchased tab of the Extensions & Updates page.
Access
This command is accessed from the Schematic Library Editor by choosing the Tools » Symbol Wizard command from the main menus.
Use
First, ensure that the new component that you want to define is selected in the Design Item ID list in the SCH Library panel (and is therefore the active component in the design window).
After launching the command, the Symbol Wizard dialog will open. Use the dialog to interactively define the component symbol as required, including number of pins, layout of those pins, and pin data.
With the symbol and its related pin data configured as required, place it into the library editor workspace as a component, or as one section of a multi-part component using the dialog's Place button. Note that if the Continue editing after placement box is checked, the Symbol Wizard dialog will remain active (allowing further editing) once the component has been placed.
Tips
- While the pin data in the table can be edited to a common value for multiple cells, the dialog's Paste and Smart Paste features provide an advanced way to populate all cell data by bringing in large amounts of different data from external sources.
- The Symbol Wizard dialog’s Preview region contains a view of the symbol graphic that dynamically represents the current settings and pin data.
