Summary

The Device Sheet Symbol dialog allow designers to edit the properties of Device Sheet Symbols on the schematic. 

Access

During placement, the Device Sheet Symbol dialog can be accessed by pressing the Tab key.

After placement, the Device Sheet Symbol dialog can be accessed in one of the following ways:

  • double-clicking on the placed Device Sheet Symbol object.
  • right-clicking on a Device Sheet Symbol object and choosing Properties from the context menu.
  • Select Edit » Change from the menu, then click once over the placed Device Sheet Symbol object.

Options/Controls

Properties Tab

Appearance

  • Location X - The field specifies the current X location of the starting corner of the device sheet symbol. To change the position of the corner point, enter the X coordinate value in the field. The position and shape of the object can also be set graphically by clicking on the object to focus it and then using the editing handles to reshape the object.
  • Location Y - The field specifies the current Y location of the starting corner of the device sheet symbol. To change the position of the corner point, enter the Y coordinate value in the field. The position and shape of the object can also be set graphically by clicking on the object to focus it and then using the editing handles to reshape the object.
  • X Size - The field specifies the current X size of the sides of the device sheet symbol. To change the size of the device sheet symbol, enter the x and y length values in these fields. The position and shape of the object can also be set graphically by clicking on the object to focus it and then using the editing handles to reshape the object.
  • Y Size - The field specifies the current Y size of the sides of the device sheet symbol. To change the size of the device sheet symbol, enter the x and y length values in these fields. The position and shape of the object can also be set graphically by clicking on the object to focus it and then using the editing handles to reshape the object.
  • Border Color - Click the color sample to change the color of the border using the standard Choose Color dialog.
  • Fill Color - Click the color sample to change the fill color using the standard Choose Color dialog.
  • Border Width - This field specifies the width of the border line around the device sheet symbol. Select a border width option from the drop-down list. The available border widths are: Smallest, Small, Medium, Large.

Properties

  • Designator - This field shows the name of the device sheet symbol. Note that you can control how physical names are expanded for multi channel designs in the Schematic - Compiler page of the Preferences dialog.
  • Unique Id - The Unique ID (UID) is an system generated value that uniquely identifies this current device sheet symbol. It is used for linking to a PCB document and for project management. Enter a new UID value or click the Reset button to generate a new UID for this design object.
  • Reset - Assign a new Unique ID (UID) to the device sheet symbol.
  • Filename -  This field shows the name of the current sheet referenced by the device sheet symbol. The text in this field must match the name of the sub schematic sheet that the device sheet symbol is linked to.
  • Show Hidden -  If this option is enabled, any text fields associated with the device sheet symbol, such as its name and filename, that have previously been hidden will be visible on the schematic.

If this option is disabled, hidden text fields are not shown on the schematic. To hide a text field, double-click on the text and enable the Hidden option in the resulting dialog.

  • Locked -  If this option is checked, the Device Sheet Symbol is protected from being edited graphically. Lock a Device Sheet Symbol whose position or size is critical. If you try to edit a design object that is locked, you will be informed that this object is locked and asked if you wish to proceed with the action. If this option is unchecked, the design object can be freely edited without confirmation.

Note that if the Protect Locked Objects option is enabled in the Schematic - Graphical Editing page of the Preferences dialog (Tools » Schematic Preferences), and the Locked option for this design object is enabled as well, then this object cannot be edited.

  • Full Path - Shows the detail location of the source file of the device sheet symbol

Parameters Tab

The table area of the Parameters tab displays the Parameter Same, Value, and Type. Select whether the Parameter is Visible or not.

The right-click menu and buttons include the following options:

  • All On/Off - Enable or disable the Visible option for all parameters.
  • Selected On/Off - Turn the Visible option for all selected parameters on or off.
  • Select All/None -Select or deselect all parameters.
  • Add - Click to open the Parameter Properties dialog which allows the designer to specify the properties of a Parameter object and create a new parameter.
  • Remove - Remove a selected parameter(s).
  • Edit - Click to open the Parameter Properties dialog and edit a selected parameter.
  • Add as Rule - Click to open the Parameter Properties dialog and add a new parameter as a rule.
