The Create new component dialog is used to select the type of component when adding a new component. Once added, the component will be displayed in the Projects panel, and the Single Component Editor will open.

The dialog is accessed from any editor in the following ways:

• Click File » New » Component from the main menus.
• From the Manufacturer Part Search panel, right-click on a component then select Acquire from the context menu.

• Search – use the text box to enter the component type for which you want to search. The list of component types will be filtered according to the search string entered.

• Component type list – select the desired component type from the list, then click OK, or double-click on the component type.

  • If a component type is referenced by multiple Component Templates, these Templates will be presented under the entry of this component type.
  • If a Component Template has no default component type defined, it will be presented under the <Undefined> entry of the Create new component dialog.
  When connected to an Altium 365 Workspace, note that Component Templates are not supported with the Standard Subscription Plan. As such, this functionality will not be available with this level of access to Altium 365.
