Summary

This command enables you to manually reposition selected objects on the current document.

Access

This command can be accessed from the Schematic Editor and the Schematic Library Editor by:

• Choosing the Edit » Move » Move Selection command from the main menus.
• Locating and using the Move Selection command () on the Active Bar.

• Clicking the  button on the Schematic Standard toolbar (Schematic Editor) or the Sch Lib Standard toolbar (Schematic Library Editor).

Use

First, ensure that the object(s) that you want to move is selected in the workspace.

After launching the command, the cursor will change to a crosshair and you will enter movement mode. Movement is made by performing the following sequence of actions:

1. Define a reference point. This is the point by which the selection is moved and placed. Position the cursor near to or on the selection then click or press Enter.
2. The selected objects will appear floating on the cursor. Move the selection to the required position then click or press Enter to effect placement.

Additional actions (where applicable) that can be performed during movement – while the selected objects are still floating on the cursor - are:

• Press the Alt key to constrain the direction of movement to the horizontal or vertical axis depending on the initial direction of movement.
• Press the Spacebar to rotate the selection counterclockwise or Shift+Spacebar for clockwise rotation. Rotation is in increments of 90°.
• Press the X or Y keys to mirror the selection along the X-axis or Y-axis respectively.

Tips

1. Connectivity is not maintained when using this feature. If connectivity needs to be maintained during a move, use one of the Drag commands instead.
2. If an object in the selection is locked and you try to move it, you will be prompted with a confirmation dialog alerting you to this and asking if you want to continue.
3. Selected objects can be 'nudged' by small amounts (according to the current snap grid value) by pressing the arrow keys while holding down the Ctrl key.
4. Selected objects can also be 'nudged' by large amounts (snap grid value by a factor of 10) by pressing the arrow keys while holding down the Ctrl and Shift keys together.
