Summary
This command is used to place a Text Box object into the active Draftsman document (*.PCBDwf).
For a high-level look at how the Altium Draftsman Drawing System provides an interactive approach to the creation of production documentation for your PCBs, see
Draftsman.
Access
This command can be accessed from the PcbDrawing Editor by:
- Choosing the Place » Text command from the main menus.
- Clicking the entry on the Graphical Tools drop-down () of the Drawing Annotations toolbar.
- Right-clicking in the workspace and choosing the Place » Text command from the context menu.
Use
After launching the command, the cursor will change to a cross-hair and you will enter text placement mode. Placement is made by performing the following sequence of actions:
- Click to anchor the starting point (first corner) of the text box.
- Move the cursor to adjust the size of the text box and click to anchor the opposite vertex, thereby completing placement.
- Continue placing further text boxes, or right-click, or press Esc, to exit placement mode.
The default text for a newly placed text box is
New Text (unless otherwise changed as part of the defaults for this primitive type, on the
Draftsman - Primitive Defaults page of the
Preferences dialog). Text can only be changed through the
Properties panel. This can be simple text, or can include parametric data, based on parameters available to the Draftsman document (system parameters, project parameters, PCB parameters, and your own custom parameters). Multi-line text is also supported.
Tips
- The corners of the text box being placed will snap to the nodes of other objects, and optionally, the document snap grid if enabled. Snapping can be defined on the Snapping tab of the Draftsman Document Options dialog.
- A text box can be graphically modified after placement. Click on its text to select it - editing handles will appear at its four corners. Click and drag a handle to resize the text box. Click on its text and drag to move to a different location within the current sheet.
- Most aspects of a placed text box are available for editing through the Properties panel. If the panel is already open, simply select a placed text box to populate the panel with its associated properties. If the panel is not open, double-click on the text to access it.
- Defaults for this primitive type can be defined on the Draftsman - Primitive Defaults page of the Preferences dialog.
