Taking Measurements on a PCB in CircuitMaker

A PCB design is highly detailed that contains objects placed and sized with a great deal of precision. To ensure that you have complete control over the placement and sizing of design objects, CircuitMaker includes measurement tools. These are general-purpose tools used for a broad variety of measurement tasks.

The measurement tools can be found in the Tools | Measure region of the PCB editor's ribbon menus.

Distance

This command measures the X, Y, and direct distance between the first and second click locations. After running the command, the cursor changes to a crosshair. Select the first location then click on the second location for which you want the measurement distance. The Measure Distance dialog opens and displays the distance between the two locations.

Selected Primitives

This command is used to check the overall length of routes. This tool works on selected tracks and arcs. It does not include via lengths. Before running the command, select the primitive you want to measure. After running the command, a dialog opens that displays the measured distance.

Between Primitives

This command is used to measure the shortest distance between the edges (clearance) between any two primitives. After running the command, the cursor changes to a crosshair. Click anywhere on two primitives. The Clearance dialog opens and displays the clearance distance between the two primitives.

Like all edit actions, the cursor moves between points on the current snap grid. You may need to change the grid value to access the point you want to measure from/to.
