The Merge Layer Stacks dialog

Summary

The Merge Layer Stacks dialog is used to control how the layers in the existing stack and the layers in the stack being loaded are to be used. The result will be the required final stack to be used for the board.

Access

In the Layer Stack Manager dialog (Design » Layer Stack Manager):

  • Use the Load drop-down and select Load From File then select and open the desired *.stackup file.
  • Use the Load drop-down and select Load from server then select the desired Layerstack Item from a server.

Options/Controls

  • Create - specifies that an imported layer be used (checked) or not (unchecked).
If you disable the creation of a layer and that layer is used and has primitives on it, a confirmation dialog appears before the action is completed.
  • Layer Type - this displays the type of layer.
  • New Layer - this is the layer stack being loaded/imported.
  • Old Layer - this is the existing, current layer stack for the board.
  • Used - a check denotes that layer currently has primitives placed on it in the board design.
  • Action - shows what is to be done for the associated layer:
    • Move Primitives - the layer being loaded will be used and existing primitives on the current layer will be moved to that layer.
    • Add - this is not a layer in the current stack; it will be added to the stack.
    • Skip - this is not a layer in the current stack; it will not be added to the stack.
    • Skip & Delete - this layer exists in the current stack but is no longer required. Do not import the layer from file/server item and delete the existing layer from the stack.
    • Delete - delete this layer.
Click on any column header to sort that column in ascending or descending order.
You can group by a column by grabbing a column header and dragging it to the desired column position in the grid.
Click the filter icon () located to the right of the column header to filter the selected column by the item selected in the filter drop-down. If (Custom) is selected, the Custom AutoFilter dialog opens in which you can set a custom filter.
Your options are being validated as you make your selections. If validation fails, the OK button becomes unavailable (e.g., if you are trying to map a mechanical layer to a signal layer). Change the invalid selection(s) to pass validation and access the OK button.
  • Default - click to revert to default settings. The default settings are:
    • Map existing layers (those used in the board's current layer stack).
    • Add new layers - found in the layer stack being loaded.
    • Add all layers that are currently being used in the board design (i.e., have primitives placed upon them).
Ordering of the layers is consistent with the ordering presented in the Layer Stack Manager dialog with all mechanical layers appearing after the physical layers.
Primitives are not deleted, they are simply moved to the newly created layer.

Right-click Menu

  • Selected On - use to check the Create box of the layer in the current cursor location.
  • Selected Off - use to uncheck the Create box of the layer in the current cursor location.
  • Used On - use to set the current layer as used.
  • Default - use to set all options to default settings.
