The Preferences dialog

Summary

The Preferences dialog allows you to define various preference settings for the Altium Designer environment, as well as global options specific to various editors and their features. Settings defined in this dialog apply across projects and relevant documents.

Access

You can access this dialog in the following ways:

  • Click DXP » Preferences.
  • In the Projects panel, click Workspace » System Preferences.

Options/Controls

  • Cloud Preferences - click the drop-down arrow to access the Cloud Preferences banner. Click Enable cloud preferences  to enable or Disable cloud preferences  to disable.
You must be signed in before you can enable the cloud preferences. You can choose to disable cloud preferences at any time, however, this is a global setting linked to your sign in. It indicates whether you have chosen to use the cloud preferences or not and it is not tied to a specific PC. After you enable the cloud preferences, you can close the dialog and continue work. When you sign out or close Altium Designer, your settings will be saved on Altium-managed servers in the cloud. After signing into Altium Designer on another machine, your settings will be retrieved from the cloud, available for you to apply. Altium Designer will only retrieve and apply your settings from the cloud if they have changed since you last signed in.

From a root options page, such as the System page shown in the image below, you have full control over which sub-pages to save to the cloud. In the Cloud Preferences region, click the  to include () or exclude () an individual page.

Note that some pages cannot be saved to the cloud as part of this feature. These pages are denoted by  in the Save to Cloud column.

The following preferences pages can be loaded (click a link for detail of the options/controls available on a page):

Use the controls and options available on the loaded page to configure your preferences for that area of the software as required. This could be a combination of your company's policies and your preferred working environment.

When a change is made to an option on a preference page, that page's entry will be distinguished in the left-hand pane by becoming bold and an asterisk (*) displayed to the right of its name.
