Parts

The Tools | Parts region of the schematic library editor includes controls to add or remove parts to/from the selected/active component. When parts are added, this makes the active component a multi-part component. The region also includes commands that allow you to jump to the previous or next part in the design space.

New Part

The New Part command is used to add a new part to the active component in the current schematic library document. This allows for the creation of multi-part components.

The New Part command is also available from the right-click menu from the schematic library editor.

Before launching the command, ensure that the component that you want to add a new part to is selected in the components list in the SCH Library panel (and is, therefore, the active component in the design window). After launching the command, the selected part is added to the component and a blank sheet for that part is opened and made active in the design window. Use this sheet to add the primitives that will constitute the part's graphical representation.

Tips

  • The new part will be added underneath the component's entry in the components list in the SCH Library panel. Either double-click on the component name or click on the tree expander symbol (to the left of the name) to list all associated parts.
  • Use the copy and paste commands to copy the contents of a previously created part into the sheet for the newly-added part. This can avoid having to place many primitives in a repetitive way, especially if the new graphical representation is a minor modification of an existing one.
  • The schematic library editor allows an unlimited number of parts per component and each part can support different graphical representations.

Remove Part

The Remove Part command is used to remove the active part from the open multi-part component in the current schematic library document.

The Remove Part command is also available from the right-click menu from a schematic library document.

Before launching the command, ensure that the multi-part component from which you want to remove the part is selected in the Design Item ID list in the SCH Library panel (and is, therefore, the active component in the design window).

Navigate to the specific part of the component that you want to remove. After launching the command, a Confirm window opens. Click Yes to remove the component.

Tips

  • You can also remove parts from a multi-part component directly from the SCH Library panel. All constituent parts are listed underneath the component's entry in the panel. Either double-click on the component name or click on the tree expander symbol (to the left of the name) to list all associated parts.
  • Parts of components that have been removed cannot be restored by using the Undo command.

Go to Part

The Go to Part commands are used to show the previous or the next part of a multi-part component in the current schematic library document.

The Go to Part commands are also available from the right-click menu from the schematic library editor.

Previous Part

This command is used to show the previous part of a multi-part component in the current schematic library document. It can be accessed when a multi-part component is the active component.

The command will not be available if you are currently viewing the first part in the active multi-part component.

Before launching the command, ensure that the multi-part component for which you want to view the parts is selected in the Design Item ID list in the SCH Library panel (and is, therefore, the active component in the design workspace). After launching the command, the sheet containing the previous part in the component will be displayed in the main design space.

Tip

  • You can also browse the parts of a multi-part component directly from the SCH Library panel. All constituent parts are listed underneath the component's entry in the panel. Either double-click on the component name or click on the tree expander symbol (to the left of the name) to list all associated parts.

Next Part

This command is used to view the next part of a multi-part component in the current schematic library document.  It can be accessed when a multi-part component is the active component.

The command will not be available if you are currently viewing the last part in the active multi-part component.

Before launching the command, ensure that the multi-part component for which you want to view the parts is selected in the Design Item ID list in the SCH Library panel (and is, therefore, the active component in the design workspace). After launching the command, the sheet containing the next part in the component will be displayed in the main design space.

Tip

  • You can also browse the parts of a multi-part component directly from the SCH Library panel. All constituent parts are listed underneath the component's entry in the panel. Either double-click on the component name or click on the tree expander symbol (to the left of the name) to list all associated parts.
