New in Altium On-Prem Enterprise Server

Released: 3 March 2025 - Version: 7.2.1 (build 17)

Release Notes for Altium On-Prem Enterprise Server 7.2

This release sees further beneficial enhancements to the Altium On-Prem Enterprise Server and its related technologies. In addition, numerous fixes have been made to resolve issues raised by customers through the Altium Community.

While the Altium On-Prem Enterprise Server installer includes an automated backup of your existing installation, it is always a good idea to make a pre-update backup of your data yourself – taking a redundancy copy off to one side, as it were. This provides additional safety should any unforeseen technical difficulties arise (see Backing up and Restoring Your Installation). It is advised to test out a new release of Altium On-Prem Enterprise Server on a different machine, before updating your production instance. The use of Virtual Machines can be invaluable in this respect.

In addition, please ensure that you refresh your Altium On-Prem Enterprise Server licensing. From the Admin – Licenses page of the Workspace browser interface, delete the existing Server/CAL licenses and then add fresh instances back in. This will ensure you have the latest licensing, incorporating any licensing-related feature changes.

While connection to the Workspace provided by Altium On-Prem Enterprise Server 7.2 is possible from earlier versions of Altium Designer, users are encouraged to update to the latest version – especially where Workspace enhancements relate to changes to the user interface within Altium Designer.

SVN Retirement

Starting from this release, SVN is no longer supported in the Altium On-Prem Enterprise Server.

  • It is no longer possible to upgrade the server from a previous version or a previous server technology if the use of SVN repositories is currently enabled for that server.

  • Existing SVN projects will become read-only. It is recommended that they be migrated to the Workspace's native Git repository (this can be performed prior to upgrading the server, from Altium Designer – learn more).

  • The Admin – VCS page has been removed from the browser interface.

For more information, refer to the SVN Discontinuation with Altium On-Prem Enterprise Server 7.2.1 Knowledge Base article.

Support for Variant-level Parameters in PLM Publication

Support for variant-level parameters in the PLM project publication mapping has been added. Resolution of variables in PLM configuration files has been extended to perform as follows:

  • For the base design (no variations), the value of the project-level parameter is used.

  • For a variant, the value of the variant-level parameter is used.

If a variant does not include the corresponding variant-level parameter, the project-level parameter will be used.

This provides you better control over the identifier part of a document name.

Note that since propagation of variant parameters to released assembly data was introduced in Altium Designer 25.0, the project must be released from Altium Designer version 25.0 or later to use the new functionality.

For more information, refer to the PLM Integration page.
